The breakdown of the traditional lines of the device industry was thrown into sharp relief this week, with Qualcomm placing itself at the center of Microsoft’s plans for tablet-based Windows, while Microsoft’s former alter ego, Intel, announced a pact with Google to optimize its x86 architecture for Android.
